Interpreting Society, Geography, and Characters of the Hunger Games

What to Expect Here (Original Launch, August 2020. Updated April, 2025))
This expanding blog will feature a rather wide-ranging collection of fun, educational, and thought-provoking interpretations related to the Hunger Games stories by Suzanne Collins. All Hunger Games books, films, and published interpretive works are fair game here (pun intended). These include the original “canon” of the trilogy, the most recent prequels (Ballad and Sunrise), feature film adaptations, and any of the excellent interpretative books or media that have been published. Some pieces and topics are more academic in nature, with actual citations and references. Others will focus on more fan-based questions and speculations for fun and reflection. How can one resist questions such as, “When did the rebellion really begin?” or “What really happened to Lucy Gray?”
Post Authors
The primary author here will initially be me — Tom Paradis, a university geography and planning professor and fervent Hunger Games enthusiast. Over time my own posts will be supplemented by an increasing array of guest authors, including current or former students from my “Unpacking the Hunger Games” year-long, first-year seminar course at Butler University in Indianapolis. A future goal is to further include various authors from outside our university setting who may wish to add their voices and interpretations on the series. That is to say, this whole endeavor will be cumulative over time and is a work in progress.
